Team Handbook
PARENT PARTICIPATION:
- Parents will register their swimmer(s) using the provided sign-up links for meets where the swimmer(s) plan to swim. Parents should ensure that swimmer(s) attend any meet in which they are registered and should ensure that the swimmer(s) arrive at the meets at the designated time and ready to swim.
- One parent must volunteer at each meet in which their swimmer(s) compete. Home meets require even more workers, and parents may need to work more than one shift.
- Parents are invited to share ideas for improvements with a Board member or member of the coaching staff. The Board and the coaching staff strive to continually improve the team.
SWIMMER PARTICIPATION:
- Work toward their personal best and encourage the achievements of all their teammates.
- Actively engage in practice and meets.
- Be suited up and ready to swim at the designated practice and meet times.
- Be proactive by taking concerns and suggestions to their coaches and/or the deck parent on duty.
- Show respect to their coaches, the UT SAC pool and staff, and the facilities that we have the privilege of using.
PRACTICE SESSIONS:
Regular attendance at practice is required in order to build skills and endurance, as well as to enjoy the feeling of working together as a team. Swimmers are encouraged to combine morning and evening practices for optimum development.
PRACTICE RULES AND ETIQUETTE FOR SWIMMERS:
- Be on time.
- Always do your best.
- Treat others the way you would like to be treated. Cheer for your teammates, allow them to pass you in your lane, and respect other swimmers’ personal property.
- Always listen to your coaches—be quiet when your coach is talking to you.
- Ask questions if you don’t understand an instruction.
- Never get out of the pool without permission.
- If you have a problem with a teammate or with a practice, talk to one of the coaches.
- If something is wrong (ie., your leg hurts or your ear aches), tell the coach before the practice.
- Do not sit on the lane ropes or run on the pool deck.
- Respect the UT facilities.
PRACTICE RULES AND ETIQUETTE FOR PARENTS:
- If you have a question, complaint, or suggestion, please do not discuss it with the coaches during practice or a swim meet. Their attention must be devoted to the swimmers.
- Once the season begins, attendance will be recorded electronically and you will receive a link to register your swimmer for meets. Please do not sign up unless you are sure that you will be able to attend. This is particularly important for relays. There is a place to add any "notes to the coach" and you are encouraged to write in any concerns or restrictions in that comment box.
