    City Meet

    Good afternoon swim families,

It is hard to believe that city meet is only two days away! We have lots of information to share and all of it is important so please take a moment to read through. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to a coach or parent board member. Alternatively you can check the website that all things City Meet can be found: https://gkaisa.swimtopia.com/2024-gkaisa-city-championship-meet

    City Meet Schedule

    • Thursday, July 11: Preliminaries for swimmers 10-Under. USC Warm ups 2:20 - 24:40 pm with a meet start time of 3:00 pm.
    • Friday, July 12: Preliminaries for swimmers 11-Up. USC warm up from 8:10-8:25 am, with a meet start time of 9:00 am.
    • Saturday, July 13: Finals. Warm-ups will begin at 7:00 am, USC tentative warmups will be 7:40-7:55 am with a start time of 9:00 am.
    • Warmup schedule and Daily Schedule attached. Both subject to change based on delays

    - Please be in the team tent 20 minutes before our scheduled warmups. Remember this is a large, crowded meet so allow ample time for parking and getting to the tent. Tent map attached. We are in the same location as the past few years just outside the main doors at Allan Jones. We are on concrete, not grass. Please bring chairs, coolers, games, etc for a long, fun day!

    Clerk of Course

    - PARENTS: you and your swimmer are responsible for them being to clerk of course on time. Coaches cannot and will track down swimmers for events. If your swimmer is not to clerk of course on time. They will not swim. The Swimtopia app and twitter are the best way to keep track of what events are in the water and who should be at clerk of course.

    - 10 and unders: First and last name, Team name (USC), and age (as of May 31) must be written clearly on their back.

    - All swimmers must have their events, heats, and lanes written on their arm or leg visible to them.

    - There will be just under 2,000 swimmers at city meet this year, it will be a very fun and exciting meet, however, it can be hectic and crazy. Please make sure that you keep up with your/ your swimmers' events and get them to clerk of course.

    City Meet Parking

If you did not purchase parking, free parking will be available at the Metron Center lot off Kingston Pike (approximately 1 mile away near Tyson Park). No shuttle service will be provided.

A limited number of passes will be for sale each day on a first-come, first-served basis. Price will be $20 per pass.

Parking passes will be available for pick-up tomorrow morning and afternoon during practice. In the morning look for Deanna Ford. In the afternoon look for Leslie Nack.

A message from the Gkaisa Board:

ATHLETE PROTECTION AND OTHER POLICIES IN PLACE AT AJIAC

The Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Program (MAAPP) is in effect at City Meet. UT’s Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center will enforce this policy. ABSOLUTELY NO CELL PHONES OR CAMERAS IN THE LOCKER ROOMS OR CHANGING AREAS AT ANY TIME.

Also, the diving well at Allan Jones will be closed on Thursday and Saturday of City Meet. We have been requested to advise that absolutely no one will be allowed in the diving well on these dates.

    *IMPORTANT* LOCKER ROOM PROCEDURES

We were just notified that the procedures for bathroom / locker room access will be as noted below.

Athletes age 17 and under should utilize the Visitor Locker rooms on deck level at Allan Jones.

Adults and athletes age 18 and over should utilize the University of Tennessee Team Locker Rooms accessed on deck at Allan Jones.

ALL ADULTS AND ATHLETES ARE EXPECTED TO RESPECT THE LOCKER ROOM AREAS. ABSOLUTELY NO LOCKERS OR PERSONAL BELONGINGS SHOULD BE TOUCHED.

Parents: If you are not working the meet, you are not allowed on deck or in the clerk of course area. This is both for swimmer safety and security of the meet.

Swimmers: You are allowed on deck at any point during your day to talk to you coaches or to warm-up/ warm-down. DO NOT MISS YOUR RACE FOR WARMUP

    Events

Your swimmers will be talked to tomorrow at practice about the events they are in. If for any reason they cannot swim in an event a coach must know before the meet day starts. Your swimmers' events cannot be changed at this point except to not swim them at all. For those interested to see if you may final, the psych sheet is attached.

If you are in a relay at this meet: Keep in mind that you have three other swimmers counting on you to show up. We have a limited number of people coming to this meet and may not have the ability to replace you.

    Weather

This is an indoor meet, this meet will continue as planned rain, shine, or (as last year we found out) extreme storms. The pool is a storm shelter, and the meet will not stop for anything.

Please keep your notifications for Swimtopia on, it will be the primary way the coaches communicate from deck. Again, if you have any questions please reach out and ask.

Thank you all for your hard work up to this point, any early City Meet is not the ideal situation, but we are going to make the most of it!
