Smoky Mountain Invitational
Good afternoon swim families,
It's hard to believe that tomorrow morning is SMI already! I have lots important information for all attending families.
Location
SMI is hosted yearly at the Springbrook pool in Maryville (home of the Maryville Alcoa Flying Dolphins). Parking is available at the pool and in locations surrounding as seen here. The address for the pool is 636 Vose Rd, Alcoa, TN 37701, USA. Parking can be very difficult and limited some years. Please plan ahead.
What to Bring
SMI can be a very long meet. Please plan ahead and bring snacks, chairs, games, books, phones, and phone chargers. Concessions will be sold during the meet, however, it is a good idea to bring a cooler with snacks and water/Gatorade to stay healthy and hydrated. 10 and under day it can be difficult to keep them entertained the whole day so please bring things to keep them going. Wristbands for free swim and the slide in the shallow end will be for sale during the meet as well if the parents, swimmers, or littles who aren't swimming wish to splash in the heat. Just make sure you do not miss your race.
Spectating
There is a small bleacher setup next to the pool for spectators. If your swimmer is not racing at that moment, please make sure to leave space for others to watch as well. For times in between events, swimmers and parents are asked to stay in and around the team tent. Our tent is in the same location as last year, but for those who are here for the first time I have attached a map of the pool and tents here.
Warmups
Warmups for Saturday (11+ day) start at 7:20am in the water. We ask you to arrive around 7:00am to stretch and take attendance. Sunday (10- day) warmups begin at 7:35am in the water. We ask you to arrive at 7:15am to stretch and take attendance. The time before warmups is also a good time to find a parking spot, change if needed, and find a spot to camp in our tent.
Clerk of Course
Clerk of course is extremely important during this meet. As will be the same for City Meet, if your swimmer does not get to clerk of course in time and misses their race, they will not be able to swim that race. Please make sure 10 and unders have their name and age (as of June 1) written on their back visible for clerk to see. All swimmers should have their events, heats, and lanes written one them somewhere visible. Please make sure that your swimmer makes it to all their events. On Sunday please help out the coaches and the parents volunteering for the meet and help their swimmers get to clerk as well is possible.
Entries
Attached are the updated entries for both days of SMI. These are final as was indicated in the last SMI entries email. Please make sure you don't miss your races!
After Events
After your swimmer completes one of their races, please have them come see the coaches at the Coaches Tent. We would love the opportunity to talk to the swimmers and possibly give them a treat!
Relays
If your swimmer is on a relay, please make sure your entire relay is here well before they call for relays. The coaches need time to adjust relays and if we find out too late, there is not much we can fix. Also please keep and eye out on Sunday for your coaches to compete in their relay!
Placements
If you place in the top 3 of your event, you will be rewarded on a podium with a medal! Race fast!
Senior Slide
Congratulations to our Senior swimmers! The senior slide will take place on Saturday near the middle of the meet. Our seniors in attendance: Marilla Neubauer and Logan Waller.
We are so excited to see everyone this weekend! Please reach out to Coach Robbie (865) 603-5110 for any questions or concerns about the meet. Get lots of sleep and we will see our 11+ bright and early!
